Your Bank Verification Number links directly to every bank account you hold. In the wrong hands, it's enough to attempt identity theft, unauthorized loans, or account takeover.
Phishing messages disguised as bank or NIBSS communication, fake BVN "verification" links, and social engineering calls are the most common routes.
Never enter your BVN on a page you reached through a text message or social media link. Only ever provide it directly through your own bank's official app or branch.
Contact your bank immediately, report to the CRC (Credit Registry Corporation), and file a report with the EFCC.
Your BVN is not a secret you type into random forms — it's a credential you give directly to your bank, once, through channels you initiated yourself. Treat any unsolicited request for it exactly like a request for your ATM PIN.
